The Look – “Champagne on the Titanic”

champagne label invitation

The centennial of the Titanic disaster seems to have quickened the imaginations of graphic designers lately. Whether it was the opening episode of “Downton Abbey,” in which Lady Mary’s fiancé was reported to have been lost aboard that glamorous vessel, or some other cultural cue, the luxury and manners of a day gone by are being revived in wedding invitations that look like cousins to the champagne labels of the era. In this example from Haute Papier (pardon their French) all the “champagne label” elements are on view:  curving Edwardian motifs at top and bottom; curving type, too; and multiple vintage typefaces, including copperplate and an exuberant script. It’s both a wonderful choice for an event that will be elegant yet not stuffy and a fabulous tribute to the best of all possible wines with which to toast the bride and groom’s happiness.
